History of the
BPT Area

Since 1885, the Cotton Spinning and Weaving Mill - BPT has been an important part of the town of Tržič. The founder was Edmund Glanzman, who from 1885 to 1891 himself led all the work in organizing the BPT plant. This is one of the oldest companies in Slovenia. It was originally registered as a limited partnership with the name »Glanzman & Wächter Cotton Spinning and Weaving«.

Soon after the establishment of the factory, Tržič also acquired municipal rights, which was certainly the result of the strong industrialization of the then market, when important factories emerged, which attracted new labour. A similar thing happened all over Europe at the end of the 19th century, when large factories sprouted but, after a good 100 years, began to die out. Empty buildings remained, and some simply collapsed on their own.

The BPT complex, created to the architectural design of the Sequin and Bronner bureau, has been preserved to this day. Due to its natural location and its own development, it is one of the few still preserved industrial complexes that are not embedded in any other built structure or transitional urbanism, but have been created by themselves. Due to its uniqueness, the area has been recognized as Slovene industrial cultural heritage.
